Policing in the Northern Division had to be innovative.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted this while reviewing the Operational Readiness Check Parade for officers based in the Northern Division ahead of the Festive season operations

ACP Driu says there is a lot of focus and emphasis on the Northern economy, and critical to bolstering economic life is security.

He adds the drive to enhance the Northern Division’s marketability has been said to rely on community centered approaches, and the same can be said about policing efforts.

The vast geographical area of coverage is a challenge; however, Police have seen the consistent effort to plug these gaps through community policing.

He reminded the officers on the need to be innovative, through smart policing and stakeholder engagement.

The head of the Fiji Police Operations said the most effective way of policing the vast Northern Division area of operation is through community policing.

ACP Driu urged the police officers to use existing Crime Prevention Committees and stakeholders to boost safety and security measures in rural areas.

He adds the communities are their greatest allies.
