The Ministry of Education has announced that all schools will remain closed tomorrow as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu strengthens to a Category 2 system, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service.
The decision was made in consultation with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), with authorities emphasizing that student safety remains the top priority during the worsening weather conditions.
Tertiary institutions, however, have been advised to assess their own circumstances and determine whether to suspend classes.
Students, including those in boarding facilities, are instructed to stay at home while the situation continues to be monitored.
Officials say further updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
Parents and guardians are being urged to supervise children closely and ensure they avoid hazardous areas such as flooded rivers, creeks, and drains.
Authorities have also warned against swimming in rivers or the sea during this period of severe weather.
In the meantime, students are encouraged to remain indoors and use the time to focus on reading and school revision until conditions improve.
