The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that final touches are being completed today on the temporary bypass at Semo Village along the Queens Highway, with the route set to open to motorists at midnight.
The Authority acknowledged the strong support shown by nearby communities throughout the construction period, particularly residents of Semo and Nalele villages.
Special recognition was given to Semo landowners for granting swift access to the site, enabling work to begin without delay, and to villagers of Nalele for assisting with traffic control.
With the bypass ready for use, motorists are being urged to drive carefully and comply with all safety signage when passing through the area.
FRA stated that the issues at the Semo crossing are linked to wider challenges associated with the country’s aging road network.
It noted that similar crossings along the Nadi–Sigatoka corridor have already been upgraded, and upgrading critical infrastructure remains a key priority under its long-term strategy.
The Authority has thanked members of the public for their understanding and cooperation during the emergency works.
