Athletics Fiji is bidding to host the 2024 Oceania Athletics Championship in Suva in August 2024.
This is subject to Athletics Fiji fulfilling all the requirements set by Oceania Athletics to have the necessary infrastructure in place to host the countries of Oceania in Suva.
Athletics Fiji Acting President, Joji Liga, says that with the support of the government through the Fiji National Sports Commission, they are trying their level best to convince Oceania Athletics that Fiji will be ready come June 2024 to host over 600 athletes.
The Oceania Championships are seen by World Athletics as the highest championship events outside the World Athletics series and the highest level of meet within the Oceania region.
Liga says 2024 will be a historic year for Athletics Fiji, as they will celebrate 75 years of existence after being affiliated with the then-IAAF back in 1949.
Liga says the Oceania competition bid is part of their plans to celebrate this milestone.
