The number of females enrolling for the Fiji National University’s (FNU), Bachelor of Education Programmes continues to increase. The statement was made by the FNU Assistant Professor in Education and former Head of School – School of Education, Dr Satish Chand. Dr Chand was presenting on the topic ‘Role on Teacher Education and Development’ at the Fiji National Education Summit last month.

Dr Chand shared statistics with the participants who were present at the Summit. “In 2020, the Early Childhood Education (ECE) programme had 94% females and 6% males,” said Dr Chand. “In 2021, for ECE we had 90% females and 10% males and in 2022 there were 95% females and 5% males.”
“For Primary Education, in 2020, we had 69% females and 31% males while in 2021, we had 71% females and 29% males. In 2022, we had 73% females and 27% males.”
“For Secondary Education, in 2020, we had 58% females and around 42% males.” He added that in 2021, a total of 58% females and 42% males enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Programmes. “In 2022, we had 52% females and 48% males,” he said. “We can see that the female enrolment is much more compared to the males.”
