The Rural Development and Disaster Management Ministry has been awarded the Aziz-ul-Haq Rural Development Medal by the Centre on Integrated Rural Development in Asia and the Pacific in recognition for its contribution to rural development in Fiji.

The medal was presented to the Ministry at the 39th meeting of the CIRDAP Technical Committee at Melaka in Malaysia last week.

The Aziz-Ul Haq Rural Development Medal recognises an individual or organisation for outstanding achievements and contributions to integrated rural development for improving livelihoods, reducing poverty and increasing the food security of rural people in Asia and the Pacific Region and for contributions to CIRDAP.

The Ministry’s award was received by Senior Economic Planning Officer Kaselia Adivatulili and Director Development Services Arieta Dimuri who attended the CIRDAP Technical Committee Meeting in Malaysia.

Permanent Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Isoa Talemaibua said the award was a significant achievement for the Ministry. He acknowledged all staff members of the Ministry for their hard work, dedication and commitment towards effective service delivery.

“The Ministry remains committed to fulfilling its mission of ensuring inclusive development for productive, sustainable and resilient rural communities. This award is a testament to the collaborative efforts and relentless dedication of our team in promoting the well-being and prosperity of rural areas. We will continue to work towards enhancing the quality of life for all rural Fijians through innovative and sustainable development initiatives,” said Mr Talemaibua.

Mr Talemaibua also expressed his gratitude to CIRDAP for recognising the Ministry’s efforts and emphasised the importance of continued collaboration with regional and international partners to address the challenges faced by rural communities.

The Rural Development and Disaster Management Ministry has been at the forefront of implementing various programmes and projects that have a goal of improving infrastructure, enhancing agricultural productivity and providing essential services to rural areas. The recognition by CIRDAP highlights the significant role played by the Ministry in driving rural development and contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of Fiji.
