Fiji and Kiribati have been selected as one of only eight countries to join the Strategic Climate Fund Trust Fund Committee under the Climate Investment Funds.

This marks a historic achievement as Fiji and Kiribati become the first Pacific Island nations to gain this significant role.

Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Sivendra Michael, has been unanimously appointed Co-Chair for recipient countries within the SCF Trust Fund Committee.

The CIF, established in 2008, provides critical climate finance to support clean technology, climate resilience and sustainable development in developing countries.

Through its work, the SCF focuses on addressing urgent climate challenges, including renewable energy adoption and climate resilience programs.

As part of the SCF Trust Fund Committee, Fiji will help guide funding decisions that impact nations most affected by climate change.

Dr Michael’s new role as Co-Chair further strengthens Fiji’s influence in global climate action, ensuring that the voices of recipient countries are heard and that funding is directed to where it is most needed.
