The Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, Barbara Malimali has taken leave after the Chair of the Judicial Services Commission had requested her, in order to allow the Commission of Inquiry to proceed without any hindrance.

In a statement, Chief Registrar and Secretary to the Judicial Services Commission, Tomasi Bainivalu highlighted that in response to this request, Malimali has voluntarily accepted to take leave to ensure the normal course of the inquiry is maintained and concluded effectively.

Bainivalu says the decision reflects the Judicial Services Commission’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and the integrity of the judicial process.

He says this step will allow the COI to carry out its mandate objective and present its findings to the President of Fiji without any undue influence or interference.

Bainivalu says to avoid any disruptions to the full operations of the FICAC Unit, the JSC has appointed Lisiate Fotofili as the Acting Deputy Commissioner with effect from the 19th of February, 2025.

He says this appointment ensures the continued efficiency and effectiveness of FICAC’s operations during the Commission’s leave.

The Chief Registrar says the JSC remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all processes adhere to the highest standards of accountability and fairness.
