The Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka, today awarded the Member of the Order of Fiji (Honorary) medal to Mr. Manohar Narindas Melwani, a respected Hong Kong businessman and tailor, in recognition of his distinguished service to Fiji and its leaders over the decades.

The ceremony, held in Suva, saw Mr. Melwani receive the honour on behalf of the President of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, for his meritorious contribution to humanity and service to the nation.

Mr. Melwani, a master tailor by trade, has long served as the preferred tailor for many of Fiji’s national leaders since independence- including former Governors- General Ratu Sir George Cakobau and Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau.

In presenting the award, Prime Minister Rabuka described Mr. Melwani as “a true friend of Fiji,” acknowledging his craftsmanship and dedication over the years.

“This medal symbolises the deep respect Fiji has for those who have made meaningful contributions to our nation’s story,” said Prime Minister Rabuka.

An emotional Mr. Melwani responded with heartfelt thanks, calling the moment “historic and cherished” for him and his family.

The event was attended by Fiji’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Robert Lee, alongside members of Mr. Melwani’s family.
