The High Court in Suva has found Apisai Madigibuli guilty of murdering his pregnant wife, Kitiana Baravilala, following a fatal stabbing at a Suva apartment in April 2024.

The judgment was delivered this morning by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere in the Suva High Court.

During the trial, the court heard that Madigibuli admitted to stabbing his pregnant wife multiple times and intentionally killing their unborn child, claiming he believed the baby had been fathered by another man.

The State called 14 witnesses during the proceedings, while Madigibuli, who represented himself in court, chose to remain silent in his defence.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Madigibuli had purchased the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, weeks before the incident.

Three forensic officers from the Fiji Police Force also gave evidence, detailing how the crime scene was processed, documented, and reconstructed.

The court heard that the victim was found lying in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife lodged in her neck.

Police interview recordings played in court detailed the events leading up to and following the killing, including a reconstruction of the crime scene and admissions allegedly made by Madigibuli.
