A family has been left without a home after a major structural fire extensively damaged their four-bedroom house at Delaitokatoka, Valelevu last Saturday.
The National Fire Authority is investigating the cause of a major structural fire that extensively damaged a family home at Delaitokatoka, Valelevu last Saturday (13/06/26).
The National Command Centre received the emergency call at 8:59am through the Police Command Centre reporting a property fire. Firefighters from Valelevu, Nakasi and Suva Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The first responding crew arrived at 9:04am and found the four-bedroom wooden and corrugated iron residential house heavily involved in fire. Firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.
After more than two hours of firefighting operations, crews successfully extinguished the fire at approximately 11:04am. The property suffered an estimated 90 percent damage, with losses estimated at approximately $300,000. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
National Fire Authority Chief Executive Officer, Puamau Sowane, said the incident highlights the importance of early emergency reporting and the need for homeowners to remain vigilant about fire safety.
Sowane says every second counts during a fire emergency.
He strongly encourages members of the public to call 910 immediately if they see a fire or smoke, no matter how small the incident may appear.
Sowane also urged homeowners to take responsibility for reducing fire risks before leaving their homes.
