Claims circulating on social media that global fuel price concerns and international developments could lead to the deferment of the next General Election remain speculative.

This is according to Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General, Siromi Turaga.

Turaga says the Electoral Commission has announced that the earliest possible date for the issuance of the Writ of Election is June 24, 2026, and that the next General Election remains scheduled within the constitutional timeframe.

He said he has been advised by the Electoral Commission and the Fiji Elections Office that voter registration activities continue and electoral preparations are ongoing in accordance with their statutory responsibilities.

Turaga adds that the Coalition Government remains committed to acting in accordance with the law and the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, adding that any decisions relating to the electoral process will be guided by the country’s legal framework.

He says the people of Fiji can be assured that the relevant institutions continue to carry out their duties as mandated by law and that the Government will continue to provide the necessary support to ensure all constitutional and legal processes are respected.

The Minister also acknowledged the ongoing work of the Constitutional Review Commission and said the Government will carefully consider its recommendations and outcomes through the appropriate constitutional and legal processes.
