Fiji Television Limited, the home of Rugby World Cups in Fiji, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with Free TV Australia that will enable the distribution of premium World Rugby content to broadcasters across the Pacific region.

In 2025, Fiji One secured a landmark three-year agreement with World Rugby covering some of the sport’s most prestigious competitions, including the Women’s Rugby World Cup England 2025, Pacific Nations Cup 2025–2027, World Rugby Junior World Championship 2025–2027 and the most anticipated Men’s Rugby World Cup Australia 2027.

The acquisition of these rights represented a significant milestone for Fiji One and reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to bringing world-class rugby content to audiences throughout Fiji and the Pacific.

For decades, Fiji One has proudly been the home of major rugby events, connecting Fijians with the sport they love. Today, that commitment extends beyond traditional television broadcasting to include digital and mobile platforms, ensuring fans can access content wherever and however they choose.

Through Fiji One and the iO platform, available online and via mobile applications, rugby fans can enjoy live and on-demand coverage whether at home, at work, or on the move. “As audience behaviour continues to evolve, it is important that we meet viewers where they are,” said Sunjeewa Perera, Chief Executive Officer of Fiji One.

The newly signed agreement with Free TV Australia marks an important next step in Fiji One’s regional strategy, allowing World Rugby content to be distributed more effectively across key Pacific markets. Fiji One and Free TV Australia have enjoyed a strong and collaborative relationship over many years. Through this partnership, Free TV Australia will support the delivery and distribution of content using its established broadcast infrastructure, helping ensure that rugby fans across the Pacific can continue to enjoy access to major international tournaments.

The first phase of the partnership will focus on the distribution of the World Rugby Junior World Championship, commencing in June 2026, followed by the Pacific Nations Cup in September 2026. This initiative is expected to significantly improve accessibility to premium rugby content for Pacific broadcasters while supporting the sustainability of free-to-air broadcasting throughout the region.

“Rugby is more than a sport in the Pacific, it is part of our identity, our culture and our communities. We are incredibly proud to work alongside World Rugby and Free TV Australia to ensure that this content remains available to audiences throughout the region. Free TV Australia has been a valued partner to Fiji TV for many years. Their willingness to support regional broadcasters and assist with content delivery demonstrates a genuine commitment to ensuring Pacific audiences are not left behind. This partnership allows Fiji TV to extend the value of our World Rugby rights beyond Fiji and support our fellow broadcasters across the Pacific. It is an important step as we build towards the biggest rugby event of all – Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia,” added Parera

“At World Rugby, we are committed to making rugby and its pinnacle competitions available to as many fans as possible, wherever they are in the world. Free-to-air access plays an important role in that ambition, particularly in passionate rugby regions such as Fiji and the wider Pacific. We are delighted to see this collaboration between Fiji One and Free TV Australia, which is excellent news for fans across the region, and will help generate even greater momentum ahead of a landmark Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia, the first to feature 24 teams,” said Michael Poussau, World Rugby Chief Revenue Officer.

“Rugby is central to Pacific communities, and this partnership reflects exactly what PacificAus TV was established to do – connect Pacific audiences with premium content through trusted local broadcasters. We’re proud to work alongside Fiji TV to bring the World Rugby Junior World Championship to the region free of charge – it is an important step in the journey towards the biggest stage in rugby – Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia”, Bridget Fair, CEO, Free TV Australia.

The announcement represents a shared commitment between Fiji One, Free TV Australia, through the PacificAus TV initiative, and World Rugby to strengthen rugby’s reach across the Pacific, ensuring that communities throughout the region continue to have access to world-class sporting content through trusted local broadcasters.

As preparations continue for the Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia, Fiji One looks forward to further collaboration with Free TV Australia, World Rugby and Pacific broadcasters to deliver an unparalleled rugby experience to audiences throughout the Pacific.
