Authorities are examining 27 parcels containing white substances recovered from Fiji’s Lau Group, with testing currently underway at the Fiji Police Forensics Laboratory in Suva.

Investigators from the Forensic and Criminal Investigations Department have joined forces with the Republic of Fiji Navy to continue inquiries and retrieve an additional 35 parcels discovered floating near Munia Island on Thursday afternoon.

Police acknowledged the swift response of local communities, noting that the initial discovery was promptly reported by the Turaga ni Koro.

The parcels were subsequently secured by officers from the Vanua Balavu Police Station.

The latest finds follow earlier discoveries across Fiji’s maritime regions.

A sealed plastic package containing a white substance recovered in Kadavu recently tested positive for cocaine.

Meanwhile, another parcel was found washed ashore near a settlement in Qamea on Friday morning and was quickly handed over to police.

Authorities say efforts remain focused on locating and recovering all suspicious packages for forensic analysis.

Investigations are also continuing in collaboration with regional and local law enforcement agencies to determine where the parcels originated and their intended destination.

Residents living in coastal communities are being urged to immediately report any suspicious packages to police through the 1681 hotline and to avoid handling or opening any such items.
