Fiji Airports is recognising the achievements of women in engineering as the world marks International Women in Engineering Day, highlighted by the promotion of Renee Duguivalu to Senior Projects Manager – Landside, making her the first woman to hold the position within the organisation.
The milestone reflects the increasing role women are playing in shaping Fiji’s aviation infrastructure and delivering projects that support the country’s long-term development goals.
Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer Mesake Nawari said Duguivalu’s appointment demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to developing talent, rewarding performance, and fostering a diverse workforce.
He said her promotion was earned through her professionalism, technical knowledge, and leadership abilities, adding that she had already made a significant contribution to the Projects team since joining the organisation.
Nawari also acknowledged the wider contribution of women across Fiji Airports, noting that their expertise and innovation continue to support major infrastructure developments across the nation’s airports.
Duguivalu joined Fiji Airports in July 2025 as Construction Manager and played an important role in projects linked to the implementation of the Nadi International Airport 25-Year Master Plan.
In her new position, she will oversee key landside infrastructure developments aimed at supporting the ongoing transformation of Nadi International Airport while improving services and facilities for passengers and airport stakeholders.
A qualified civil engineer, Duguivalu brings extensive experience in civil and structural engineering.
Before joining Fiji Airports, she worked with engineering consultancy firms and later held a senior leadership role with the Housing Authority, where she managed land and housing development projects.
Although aviation was a new industry for her, Duguivalu described the transition as an exciting experience, saying the fast-moving environment and variety of projects have provided valuable opportunities for growth.
She hopes her journey will inspire more young women to consider careers in engineering and believes mentorship is important in helping aspiring professionals succeed.
As this year’s International Women in Engineering Day theme, “Engineering Intelligence,” shines a spotlight on innovation and problem-solving, Duguivalu said engineering is ultimately about creating practical solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities.
Fiji Airports continues to invest in developing engineering professionals and creating pathways for women to lead major projects that will support the future growth of Fiji’s aviation network and economy.
