The Government is working with maritime operators and the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) to resolve compliance issues affecting shipping services, particularly in the Northern Division and maritime islands.
Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, says discussions with operators and MSAF are progressing, with efforts focused on addressing key compliance requirements, including vessel dry-docking and crew-related matters.
According to the Minister, temporary operational measures are also being explored to ensure essential maritime services continue while maintaining safety standards.
He says the priority is to implement practical interim arrangements that minimise disruptions for communities reliant on sea transport.
The Government is expected to provide an update later today on the outcomes of the discussions and the measures that will be introduced.
Minister Tuisawau also thanked residents of Taveuni and other affected maritime communities for their patience and understanding as work continues to restore reliable services.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working alongside industry stakeholders to deliver safe, dependable and sustainable maritime transport across Fiji.
