The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs is in Labasa this week to conduct public consultations on two proposed pieces of legislation: the Work Care Bill (Bill No. 7 of 2025) and the Accident Compensation (Amendment) Bill (Bill No. 8 of 2025).
As part of their engagements, the Committee met with Heads of Schools and School Managers participating in the Ministry of Education’s FEMIS training at Labasa College. During a brief session, the Committee invited feedback specifically on the proposed changes to the Accident Compensation Act.
The Committee also visited Saint Mary’s Primary School and is continuing to meet with the public and stakeholders throughout the Northern Division.
These consultations form part of Parliament’s effort to ensure inclusive lawmaking by incorporating the views of communities and professionals affected by the proposed legislation.
