Davuilevu Theological College has entered a new phase of academic collaboration after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Otago in New Zealand.

The agreement was formalised in a ceremony attended by Methodist Church in Fiji President Dr. Semisi Turagavou, College Principal Savenaca Vuetanavanua, and University of Otago Vice-Chancellor Grant Robertson, along with senior representatives from both institutions.

College leaders described the signing as a milestone, highlighting its timing as the institution expands its academic offerings from foundational programmes to diploma, degree and master’s level studies, with future plans for doctoral qualifications.

Church leadership welcomed the partnership, noting it will strengthen theological education and better prepare ministers to meet modern challenges through enhanced research, critical thinking and academic training.

The University of Otago also acknowledged the importance of the collaboration, emphasising opportunities for shared learning, research, and deeper engagement with Pacific theology.

The agreement is expected to support staff and student exchanges, joint research initiatives, and the development of advanced theological programmes, reinforcing a shared commitment to academic growth and regional cooperation.
