Dengue fever outbreak declared in Samoa

On Friday afternoon, a verified media source reported that health officials in Samoa declared an outbreak of dengue fever, with over 250 reported cases thus far.

The majority of cases have been identified on the mainland, particularly in the northwest region of Upolu, which is densely populated.

According to the World Health Organization, dengue fever is a viral illness transmitted to humans by mosquitoes.

Aiono Dr. Alec Ekeroma, Samoa’s Director General of Health, provided insights into the developing situation during an interview with the media source.
