Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, held a productive bilateral meeting today with Dr. Najat Maalla M’jid, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Violence Against Children.
The discussion, held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, was part of the ongoing Pacific Child Wellbeing Summit in Suva.
The meeting centered on strengthening Fiji’s child protection frameworks.
Key topics included the implementation of Fiji’s Child Justice Act and the Child Care and Protection Act, strategies for positive parenting, and the development of a National Action Plan to prevent and respond to child abuse.
The two leaders also discussed the importance of Child-Responsive Budgeting to ensure proper funding for child welfare programs.
Minister Kiran emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, civil society, and international partners to advance child protection in Fiji.
The Minister was accompanied by Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Permanent Secretary, and Veremo Muria, Director of Children.
