The iTaukei Affairs Ministry believes that education is key to producing a new generation of independent and capable iTaukei people. This was revealed by the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, during the opening of the Lomaiviti Provincial Council Meeting at the Studio Conference Centre in Suva yesterday. Addressing representatives from the 21 tikinas of Lomaiviti, Minister Vasu emphasised that investment in education should be a priority for every family, whether in rural or urban areas.

The Minister emphasised that a sizeable amount of the government budget is allocated to the education sector, indicating the government’s heavy investment in this field. The health sector is also given a lot of attention; the Ministry of Health is currently modernising and modernising its facilities. Once finished, these facilities will be enhanced by new infrastructural expenditures.

The Minister encouraged discussion to address these concerns, acknowledging that residents frequently complain about the way government services are delivered.

He also stated that the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs is dedicated to improving living conditions in all our villages. The Village Improvement Scheme, introduced last year and budgeted for this year, aims to assist in the physical beautification and general improvement of villages, raising living standards for Indigenous Fijians and Rotumans.

Concluding his message, Minister Vasu reiterated his call for the support of youths and the protection of all women and children from any form of violence.
