Communities across Nasinu joined forces today for a large-scale clean-up campaign aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment.

The initiative saw the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change provide essential cleaning supplies, including sacks, gloves and hand sanitisers, to support volunteers from the Nasinu Women’s Forum.

Working alongside officers from the Fiji Police Force’s Community Policing Directorate, Nakasi Police and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (FTG), participants cleaned public areas stretching from Nakasi to Caubati.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya praised the collective effort, saying environmental protection depends on everyone taking responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.

She questioned how long communities should be expected to collect rubbish discarded by others, stressing that proper waste disposal is the responsibility of every individual.

Tabuya said the same care people show in maintaining their homes should also be extended to public spaces.

The Minister also called for stronger community awareness and greater civic responsibility, encouraging residents to educate one another and support tougher measures to reduce littering.

The Ministry expressed its appreciation to all volunteers and partner agencies for their contribution and urged Fijians to continue disposing of waste responsibly to help preserve clean communities for future generations.
