The Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) Plus Implementation Unit (PPIU) is hosting a three-day Dialogue for Revenue Mobilisation for PACER Plus parties in Nadi, Fiji, from 27 February to 29 February.

The event aims to enhance the capacity of customs and tax administrations of PACER Plus parties and signatories, including Australia, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Collaborating with partners like the Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Centre (PFTAC), the Pacific Islands Tax Administrators Association (PITAA) and the Oceania Customs Organisation (OCO), the dialogue focuses on capacity building to empower officials in managing revenues effectively.

PPIU Trade Adviser, Alipate Tavo emphasised the workshop’s importance for equipping officials with skills to navigate economic changes and promote sustainable growth in the Pacific.

The dialogue facilitates knowledge sharing on best tax practices, strategic planning for short-term actions and long-term reforms, aligning with PACER Plus’s goal of boosting regional trade.

The outcomes are expected to include improved regulatory and policy reforms supporting Rules of Origin (ROO) obligations and tariff commitments, as a result of fostering sustainable economic growth in Pacific Island countries.
