The Fiji Police Force has concluded a pivotal Senior Officers Seminar at the Novotel Hotel in Lami, focusing on the progress of the FPF Uplift Program an initiative supported by the Australian Federal Police and outlining its proposed Strategic Plan for 2025 to 2029.
The seminar was officially opened by the Minister for Policing, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, who underscored the urgency for modern law enforcement to adapt to a rapidly evolving security landscape.
He referenced growing concerns around cyber threats, artificial intelligence-driven crime, transnational criminal networks, and climate-induced security issues.
“We live in a time of extraordinary change. Traditional policing methods are no longer enough,” said Minister Naivalurua. “Communities expect more, and the Fiji Police Force must lead the change, not follow it.”
Calling law enforcement a “national pillar,” he urged senior officers to embrace innovation, strengthen leadership, and reinforce credibility in the face of increasing societal demands.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu commended the team’s dedication and emphasized the importance of unity and internal leadership.
“Nobody can come from outside to take this organisation forward. We are here as a team to do that, and the Uplift will assist us in taking this organisation forward,” he said.
Additional presentations were delivered by Permanent Secretary for Policing Mr. Beranado Kolinio Daveta and Mr. Biu Matavou, Principal Project Officer for the Police Act Review Team, who provided updates on legislative and policy reforms.
