The Fiji Police Force celebrated its 150th anniversary today with a grand procession through the streets of Suva, in collaboration with the Fiji Correction Service.

The commemoration included speeches from key officials, including the Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, who officiated the ceremony.

In his address, Minister Tikoduadua highlighted the sacrifice, bravery, and unwavering commitment of the officers, both past and present, who have dedicated themselves to maintaining peace and security across the country.

“We must acknowledge the sacrifices of those who have served, as well as those who continue to serve our nation today,” Tikoduadua said. He also underscored the importance of ensuring that law enforcement agencies adapt to the changing needs of society.

“This celebration is not just a celebration of history, but a recognition of the sacrifices and commitment of those who have served before us and continue to serve today. The men and women of the Fiji Police Force have carried out their duties under challenging conditions, with little recognition and yet unwavering dedication to keeping our communities safe and upholding the rule of law”, Tikoduadua said.

The 150th-anniversary event served not only as a reflection of the Fiji Police Force’s historical role but also as a platform to discuss its future.

Tikoduadua touched on the importance of community engagement and national security, stressing that the evolving responsibilities of law enforcement go beyond traditional policing.

“The Police Reset is more than a strategy; it is a commitment to transform how the Fiji Police Force operates in a rapidly changing world”, he said.

The colorful procession, which began earlier in the day, drew spectators from across Suva. Onlookers lined the streets to cheer on the marching officers, celebrating the significant milestone with pride.

The Fiji Police Force has been instrumental in maintaining law and order throughout its long history.
