Rotuma Hospital to be opened after 9-year construction period

A significant step towards enhancing healthcare in Fiji occurred as the newly constructed Rotuma Hospital was transferred to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

Lieutenant Colonel Semi Mocelutu, the Commanding Officer of the Engineers Regiment, presented the completed facility to Temo Ravula, the Senior Administration Officer of the Ministry’s Asset Management Unit, marking a significant milestone.

The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Commander Land Force (CLF) Colonel Onisivoro Covunisaqa, Senior Medical Officer Rotuma Dr. Ravaele Inikasio, District Officer Rotuma, Chairman of the Rotuma Council Gagaj Manav, among others.

After a prolonged nine-year construction period, the eagerly awaited facility is now ready and will be formally inaugurated today Health and Medical Services Minister, Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu.

This initiative, expedited by the Coalition Government, aims to deliver essential healthcare services to the remote island’s nearly 2000 residents, benefiting individuals across 15 main villages.

This development represents a significant stride in enhancing healthcare and fostering community development in Fiji.
