The Fiji Rugby Football Union (FRFU) and Fiji Rugby Players Association (FRPA) are urging players and parents to seek advice before signing overseas contracts, scholarships or letters of intent.
The organisations say proposed arrangements must be reviewed from a player welfare perspective, particularly provisions covering injury, payments, accommodation, insurance and termination.
Players aged 19 and below who are approached by agents while at school should go through their Head of School, while agents must also be verified and approved by the FRFU.
The FRFU says players must complete any required release process while still in Fiji, before travelling overseas.
FRFU CEO Koli Sewabu says the process is aimed at protecting players from contractual loopholes that could leave them vulnerable, particularly in cases of injury.
FRPA Director Wame Lewaravu is also urging players and parents to seek advice early, stressing that opportunities should never come at the expense of player welfare.
The FRFU and FRPA say the message is clear: verify the agent, seek advice before signing and ensure the proper release process is completed before leaving Fiji.
