Acting Permanent Secretary, Salaseini Daunabuna, accompanied a delegation from the United States Congress on a tour organised by the United Nations Population Fund and United Nations Children’s Fund.
They visited Makoi and Nausori Maternity Units to observe United Nations work.
Chief Surgeon Dr Josese Turagava discussed initiatives to support midwives and better staff training, addressing challenges like staff shortages.
The United Nations Population Fund and United Nations Children’s Fund is working with Fiji government to tackle these issues.
The visit highlighted United Nations significant role in maternal health care in Fiji and the Pacific, offering the delegation insights into challenges and opportunities in providing quality maternity care in developing countries.
