Residents in parts of Suva and surrounding areas are facing temporary water supply disruptions following heavy rainfall that has affected raw water quality at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant (WTP), the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has confirmed.

Floodwaters from three main catchments Headworks 3, Savura, and Waimanu have led to high turbidity levels, disrupting normal treatment operations.

Although inflows to the plant have been cautiously increased to 72 million litres per day (MLD), it remains short of the optimal 75 MLD needed to meet full demand.

The increased turbidity has also forced more frequent filter backwashing, reducing the plant’s output to around 85% of its capacity and dropping reservoir levels by roughly 2 metres.

As a result, customers, particularly in elevated areas, are experiencing low pressure or no water at all.

WAF teams are working continuously to restore full treatment and supply as raw water conditions improve.

In the meantime, water carting trucks are being dispatched to support the hardest-hit areas, and customers are urged to store water when supply is available.

Affected Areas:

  • Tamavua, Nagatugatu, Tacirua, Dokanisuva, Coloisuva, Shipping Reservoir Zones
  • Includes parts of Namadi Heights, Princess Road, Lami, Sakoca, Tacirua Heights, Colo-I-Suva, Walubay, and others.
