The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, and his delegation visited the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis two days ago to meet with two Fijian naval cadets currently undergoing training at the prestigious institution.

Midshipmen Atile Naroba and Osea Melibua are participating in a rigorous four-year cadetship program, which combines military training with academic education, culminating in an undergraduate degree. Their studies are complemented by active involvement in extracurricular activities, including representing the academy in rugby and other sports. The cadets’ outstanding performance and dedication have earned them praise from both their peers and faculty.

During the visit, Major General Kalouniwai expressed pride in the achievements of the two midshipmen, commending their commitment to excellence both in academics and athletics. He highlighted the significance of their journey as representatives of Fiji on the global stage, emphasizing the role of their training in shaping future leaders for the RFMF.

“The dedication and hard work demonstrated by Midshipmen Naroba and Melibua reflect their personal character and also bring great honor to the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and our nation,” said Major General Kalouniwai. “Their success is an outcome to the value of international partnerships and the opportunities provided through our collaboration with the United States.”

The cadets expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to train at the Naval Academy, noting the invaluable experience they are gaining in leadership, discipline, and professional development. They shared their aspirations to apply these skills in serving Fiji upon completion of their training.

The visit is part of the Commander RFMF’s broader agenda during his official visit to the United States, aimed at strengthening ties with key institutions and fostering the development of the next generation of Fijian military leaders. Major General Kalouniwai’s visit to the USNA reiterates the importance of investing in the professional growth of RFMF personnel through world-class training opportunities.

As Fiji continues to contribute to regional and global security efforts, the success of its cadets at esteemed institutions like the USNA reinforces the nation’s commitment to cultivating a highly skilled and capable military force.
