The new Nakasi Police Station was officially inaugurated today by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development, and Statistics, Professor Biman Prasad.
The state-of-the-art facility, which was completed in August 2023, now houses both the Nakasi Police and the Eastern Division Headquarters.
Authorities made the move after the old station was deemed unsuitable to meet the rising demand for policing services.

The establishment of the new station comes in response to Nakasi’s rapid urban growth. With a population of over 45,000 residents spread across Nakasi, Wainibuku, Davuilevu, and Koronivia, the area has seen significant commercial and residential expansion, including a new market, major retail outlets, and food chains.
The station’s jurisdiction also covers four secondary schools, eight primary schools, and nearby emergency services.
In his remarks, Professor Prasad highlighted the Government’s commitment to strengthening the Fiji Police Force.

“To meet these challenges, we must continue to invest in our police service, enhance our capabilities, and build stronger partnerships both locally and internationally,” he said.
“We are resolute in our mission to combat crime and drugs, modernise our systems, and strengthen collaboration.”
He also underscored the importance of rebuilding public trust.
“Public confidence in the police is crucial for peace, stability, and justice,” he stated.
“Under the leadership of Commissioner Tudravu, we have seen improved police visibility and stronger action against criminal activity.”
Looking ahead, the Deputy Prime Minister announced plans for new police stations in Labasa, Valelevu, and Nalawa, along with new storage facilities to improve logistics nationwide.
Community police posts are also being considered for Bua, Kadavu, and Taveuni.
“These projects demand careful planning and investment,” he added, “but they are essential and they will happen.”
