Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has launched the Executive Public Leadership Course at Fiji National University (FNU), an initiative aimed at enhancing leadership capability, governance standards and institutional performance within Fiji’s public sector.

Speaking at the launch, the Prime Minister said Fiji’s evolving development landscape requires leaders who can respond effectively to emerging national and global challenges while remaining committed to serving the public interest.

He emphasised that good governance, transparency and accountability are essential for maintaining public confidence and supporting the country’s long-term development goals.

The programme brings together senior representatives from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), government ministries, public agencies and partner organisations to strengthen leadership skills and improve organisational effectiveness.

Mr Rabuka said the course supports Fiji’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, noting that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals depends on leaders who can encourage innovation, strengthen resilience and deliver meaningful outcomes across sectors.

He also highlighted the value of partnerships in developing leadership capacity and contributing to regional security efforts.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to investing in leadership development, describing the programme as an important step toward building a capable and united group of leaders equipped to advance Fiji’s national priorities.

He commended FNU for delivering practical, research-based learning opportunities that connect academic knowledge with real-world governance and leadership challenges.

Mr Rabuka also acknowledged the support of the United States Embassy in Suva, the College of Southern Nevada, the Nevada National Guard State Partnership Programme, the RFMF and other development partners for their contribution to the initiative.

Concluding his address, he referenced retired United States General and former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s view that leadership is ultimately about motivating people to achieve shared goals.
