The FMF Nadi Bula Festival was officially opened yesterday evening at Prince Charles Park, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, urging contestants and the wider Nadi community to lead with compassion and vision.

With this year’s theme, “Rebuilding Lives through Compassion and Charity,” the festival, organised by the Nadi Town Council, aims to unite the community through service and celebration.

In his opening address, DPM Gavoka told the contestants that they were more than competitors; they were already leaders.

“Your journey begins tonight, but your impact is already being felt. You’ve stepped forward to champion important causes and uplift your communities,” he said. “You already carry the pride of your people; we honour your courage, commitment, and the sacrifices you’ve made to be here.”

He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to Nadi’s development, highlighting an $8 million allocation in the 2025–2026 National Budget to position Nadi as a model town; resilient, future-focused, and thriving in a peaceful Pacific.

Recognising Nadi’s pivotal role in tourism, Gavoka reminded residents of the importance of their role as frontline ambassadors of Fiji.

“Nadi town is and will continue to play a very important role in driving Fiji’s tourism industry. As the Jet-Set town, you are the community that welcomes international visitors to our shores.”

He closed by encouraging festival-goers to protect the legacy of Nadi and see the event as more than a celebration, but a stepping stone for the town’s bright future.

“Nadi is the tourist capital, and it’s in your hands to protect and uphold that legacy.”

The weeklong event will feature cultural performances, community outreach, and fundraising for local causes, with contestants representing different sectors of Nadi and surrounding districts.
