The 2026/2027 National Budget allocates funding to improve water security and strengthen disaster resilience, with thousands of Fijians expected to benefit from better access to clean drinking water and enhanced disaster preparedness.
Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo says $6.2 million has been set aside for the Groundwater Assistance Programme after the successful completion of 96 groundwater sources, providing clean water to more than 23,000 people across 3,298 households.
The Budget also includes funding for volcanic hazard risk reduction, around-the-clock earthquake and tsunami monitoring, and geological assessments in landslide-prone areas to improve Fiji’s ability to respond to natural disasters.
Vosarogo says the investment reflects the Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives, improving community resilience and ensuring reliable access to essential services while preparing for the growing impacts of climate change and natural hazards.
