Tonight’s World Rugby Under-20 Championship clash between Fiji and Australia will carry extra meaning for one proud family.

SportsWorld Fijian U20 inside centre Sailosi Taka and Australian winger Taione Taka will line up on opposite sides, each representing their nation on one of rugby’s biggest junior stages. Despite wearing different jerseys, the two share a special bond — both are grandsons of Dr. Josaia Taka.

Sailosi will start at inside centre (No.12) for Fiji, while Taione has been named on the left wing (no.11) for Australia as the two teams meet in a highly anticipated championship encounter.

For Fiji, Sailosi’s rise has been impressive. The talented youngster was the Deputy Head Deputy Head Boy and Under-18 rugby captain at Queen Victoria School, one of the country’s most respected rugby nurseries. Originally from Namuka Village in Nakelo, Tailevu, Sailosi has built a reputation as a natural leader on and off the field. Last year, he spoke of his ambitions to perform at the highest level and pursue a professional rugby career.

Across the field, Taione has been making his own mark in Australian rugby. The former Brisbane Boys’ College standout has progressed through Queensland’s age-grade pathway and earned selection for the Australian Under-20 side. Known for his versatility and athleticism, Taione has featured in both the midfield and on the wing during his development with Queensland representative teams.

While both players are chasing victory for their respective countries, tonight’s match will also be a celebration of family heritage. The encounter guarantees that one of Dr. Josaia Taka’s grandsons will leave the field on the winning side, while both will gain invaluable experience competing at the highest junior level.

For rugby fans in Fiji and Australia, it adds another fascinating storyline to an already significant match. For the Taka family, however, the result may be secondary to the pride of seeing two grandsons reach the international stage and represent their nations with distinction.

As Fiji and Australia battle for championship honors tonight, all eyes will be on the two young Takas — family members, rivals for 80 minutes, and rising stars of the future of rugby.
