A comprehensive feasibility study concerning the establishment of a dedicated Resource Owners’ and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Investment Fund in Fiji has been successfully completed by Fijian Holdings Limited, in partnership with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.

The initiative was supported by the Great Council of Chiefs, the iTaukei Resource Owners Forum and the Government with an aim to enhance financial inclusivity and economic empowerment for iTaukei resource owners and local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Invexa Business Solutions Ltd, in collaboration with the government through the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, conducted a feasibility study, determining a robust business case for establishing a bank tailored to the needs of resource owners and MSMEs.

The report recommends transforming Merchant Finance Limited to provide specialised lending facilities. Line Minister, Ifereimi Vasu expressed satisfaction with the study’s outcomes, highlighting its support for lowering barriers to financial services.

“When I assumed office, my primary concern addressed to FHL was about devising ways to lower the barriers for resource owners to access financial services. I am delighted to announce that the feasibility study supports the viability of such an initiative and outlines the strategic steps to implement it effectively,” said Vasu.

Fijian Holdings Limited’s (FHL) Chief Executive Officer, Jaoji Koro emphasised the importance of the Solesolevaki Framework in enabling the study, aligning with FHL’s purpose to boost iTaukei participation in business.

Vasu assured that key recommendations would be presented to the Cabinet, emphasising the initiative’s potential for economic advancement.

This development promises to transform Fiji’s financial landscape, adopting prosperity among iTaukei communities and entrepreneurs.
