Government communications officers are taking part in a two-day training workshop aimed at strengthening their ability to combat AI-driven misinformation and improve the delivery of accurate and timely public information.

The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Information with support from the UK Government Communication Service, focuses on practical strategies to counter false information, improve public engagement and raise communication standards across Government.

Opening the programme, Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya said government communicators play a critical role in connecting the Government with the public, particularly as artificial intelligence continues to transform the information landscape.

She said trusted, factual and timely communication is more important than ever, urging officers to ensure Fijians receive reliable information they can depend on.

Participants are also being trained on Fiji’s SAUTU Counter-Disinformation Framework and the Government Communications Guidebook. During the workshop, Tabuya announced several upcoming initiatives, including Facebook Guidance for Government, an AI Policy for Government Communicators, a Government Communications website, and the Fiji Government Communications Strategy.

The Minister encouraged communications officers to strengthen collaboration while upholding professionalism, transparency and public trust.
