Deputy Prime Minister and Communications Minister Manoa Kamikamica has reiterated the call not to be too trusting when it comes to online scams.
He said, most people are easily lured into believing a conversation is legitimate on social media platform such as Viber and Facebook, until they are scammed at the end.
He added that members of the public, especially the elderly are encouraged not to share any password, phone number or personal information online.
A number of arrests have been made over the past few weeks in relation to online scams, particularly on the digital wallet M-Paisa platform.
Kamikamica who is also chairman of the Anti-Scam Taskforce said a lot of education and awareness needs to be conducted, in order to prevent more people from getting scammed.
He stressed that M-Paisa users should be vigilant at all times, and avoid sharing personal information, on the online platforms.
