The Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports supporting the 2025-2026 National Budget says, investing in young people means creating pathways to jobs, opportunity and a stronger future for Fiji.
Speaking during the 2025-2026 National Budget Debate, Aliki Bia says youth development is a long-term investment in the country’s economy and social wellbeing.
“For many young people, the questions are equally important. They are asking whether their work at school or through vocational training will lead to meaningful employment. They want opportunities to develop their talent, contribute to their community and build independent lives.”
He adds that investment in sport delivers the same benefits by building discipline, leadership and stronger communities.
“The same principle applies to sports. Sports is often recognized for the pride it brings to our nation on the international stage. But its greatest contribution begins much closer to home. It teaches discipline, teamwork and resilience. It makes young people engage in positive activities. It promotes healthier communities and promotes leadership, inclusion and national unity. Every investment in sport, athlete development and sporting infrastructure is also an investment in stronger families and stronger communities.”
