Good news for cane growers with the Sugar Industry Tribunal announcement today of a third cane payment of $23.14 per tonne.
The payment, which will be made on March 27, will take the total paid out to farmers to $79.33 per tonne.
So far, growers have received $56.19 per tonne – made up of $42.14 per tonne delivery payment and $14.05 per tonne second cane payment.
Tribunal Devanesh Sharma certified the payment, based on the net share of growers proceeds from the sale of sugar which was $124,198,210 as at February 29 this year.
The tribunal also announced a $5 per tonne to 4924 growers under its 2023-2024 Farmers Incentive Program.
The total payout of $1, 094,733.36 is to farmers who have increased production last year, in comparison to 2022.
