Residents living in low-lying coastal communities are being urged to remain on alert as high tides are expected to increase the risk of coastal inundation over the next 24 hours.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, a moderate risk of sea flooding is forecast during the upcoming high tide periods, with vulnerable coastal areas advised to closely monitor local conditions and take necessary precautions.

On Wednesday, high tide is expected at around 12:15pm, reaching approximately 1.65 metres.

Further high tides are forecast for Thursday at around 12:45am, with an estimated height of 1.80 metres, and again at approximately 1:20pm, reaching 1.60 metres.

The Coastal Inundation Alert remains in place for the southern coastal areas of the Mamanuca Group, the southern coastline of Viti Levu from Momi through Sigatoka, Korolevu and Pacific Harbour to Suva, as well as the southern coastal areas of Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, the Lau Islands, and the Lomaiviti Islands.

People living in the affected areas are encouraged to stay informed by following the latest weather advisories and to exercise caution if they reside in flood-prone or low-lying coastal locations.
