Seaweed farming is creating new income opportunities for communities in Tailevu as the Ministry of Fisheries continues to expand community-based aquaculture programmes across Fiji.
A successful harvest at Natila Village saw villagers produce 578.5 kilograms of wet seaweed, demonstrating the increasing potential of seaweed farming as a reliable and sustainable livelihood.
Ministry officials also recorded 167.3 kilograms of drying seaweed seedlings, a positive indicator of continued growth in local production and ongoing efforts to strengthen the sector.
The latest harvest reflects the Ministry’s commitment to developing Fiji’s seaweed industry through community-driven aquaculture initiatives that support economic opportunities while encouraging sustainable fisheries practices.
